Barrett Shoots 300 in Final Game of First Round to Take Early Lead in PBA Cheetah Championship

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – England’s Dom Barrett fired a 300 game in the final game of the first round Tuesday to take the early lead in the PBA Cheetah Championship, the first event of PBA World Series of Bowling X at Thunderbowl Lanes.

Bowling on PBA’s 33-foot Cheetah lane condition, the seven-time Go Bowling! PBA Tour winner bowled a 1,197 five-game pinfall total to hold a 11-pin lead over PBA Hall of Famer and 2010 PBA World Championship winner Chris Barnes in second with 1,186. Barrett bowled games of 257, 207, 222, 211 before his perfect game.

“I was doing pretty well the whole round but I stayed patient with my equipment and my adjustments and everything really came together in the last game,” said Barrett, who won the PBA World Championship as part of the 2013 WSOB. “I’ve had good success here (in the WSOB) so I like the challenge this event brings. I think that plays to my advantage.”

Rounding out the top five after the first round were Ryan Shafer, 1,184; Bill O’Neill, 1,176, and Nicholas Pate, 1,172.

The 135-player field returns this evening at 6:30 p.m. ET for the Cheetah Championship second five-game round.

After the second round, the top 16 players will advance to single elimination match play on March 18. After match play, the top four players will advance to the Cheetah Championship Finals live on FS1 March 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

The cumulative pinfall from the qualifying rounds of the Cheetah, Chameleon (Wednesday) and Scorpion Championships (Thursday) also serve as qualifying totals for the PBA World Championship which will culminate with the live FS1 finals on Thursday, March 21 on FS1 at 8 p.m.
