ALLEN PARK, Mich.  – Four-time PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte wasted no time adding to his PBA World Championship lead Friday finishing with an 8,076 pinfall total for 35 games after the first cashers’ round at PBA World Series of Bowling X.

Belmonte, who is trying for a record 11th major title in the third major of the 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour season,  bowled 289, 235, 257, 194 and 224 in the first cashers’ round at Thunderbowl Lanes on the PBA’s 43-foot Earl Anthony lane condition.

Belmonte retained his lead after earning top qualifier honors for the Scorpion Championship on Thursday.

After this evening’s final five-game cashers’ round, the 45-player field will be cut to the top 16 for round-robin match play rounds Saturday at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET. The top five players will then advance to the live FS1 stepladder finals March 21 at 8 p.m. ET.

The 35-year-old two-hander won the PBA Tournament of Champions in February for his 10th major to tie PBA Hall of Famers Pete Weber and Earl Anthony for first on the career majors list.

Belmonte holds a 205-pin lead over Bill O’Neill in second who won the season-opening PBA Hall of Fame Classic for his 10th career title. O’Neill finished with a 7,871 pinfall after the first cashers’ round.

Currently tied for 16th are PBA Hall of Famers Parker Bohn III and Darren Tang of Las Vegas with 7,523.
